The all-new Hyundai Creta sub-compact SUV went on sale in India from July 21 with a starting price of 859,558 rupees (approximately $13,525).
Hyundai has global ambitions with the new SUV, but the company hasn’t yet announced which other markets will get the Creta. A very similar model called the Hyundai ix25 is already on sale in China.
On the Indian market, the Hyundai Creta is offered with a one petrol unit and two diesel engines. The petrol engine is a 1.6-liter Gamma Dual VTVT four-cylinder producing 123PS (121hp) at 6,400 rpm and 151Nm (111lb-ft) of torque at 4,850 rpm. With this unit, the Creta returns 15.29 km/L (6.5 l/100 km or 35.9 mpg US).
The entry-level diesel engine is a 1.4-liter U2 CRDi four-cylinder which delivers 90PS (89hp) at 4,000 rpm and 220Nm (162lb-ft) of torque between 1,500 and 2,750 rpm. Predictably, this is the most economical version, returning 21.38 km/L (4.7 l/100 km or 50.2 mpg US).
Finally, the second diesel engine on offer is a 1.6-liter U2 CRDi VGT four-cylinder, rated at 128PS (126hp) at 4,000 rpm and 260Nm (192lb-ft) of torque between 1,900 and 2,750 rpm. With this engine, the Creta is rated at 19.67 km/L (5.1 l/100 km or 46.2 mpg US).
All engines are mated as standard to a six-speed manual gearbox, with the top diesel engine also being available with an optional six-speed automatic transmission.
