Even though the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 wins this drag race hands down, aside from the launch, this was a surprisingly tight affair.
Once they got off the line, both cars raced until they hit 298 km/h (185 mph) – that’s when the driver of the Gallardo clearly lifted off the throttle.
The Aventador definitely got a better start, and it’s not hard to understand why. It’s got more power, a faster transmission, newer software…it got off the line like a missile.
If everything went according to plan, it probably hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 2.9 seconds, which matters because that’s way faster than the Gallardo Superleggera’s sprint time.
In terms of power, the Aventador’s muscle is up against “just” 530 PS, though keep in mind the Superleggera is the lighter car here. Another thing worth pointing out is that this looks like the first Superleggera (2007 model) and not the newer Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera which comes with a much more aggressive front end.
Overall, yes, the result is a little surprising, even though the car that was supposed to win…won.
In terms of what’s going on “on paper”, the Aventador doesn’t have any reason to worry here. But in terms of sticking with it, the good-old Gallardo put up quite the fight. It’s not like the Aventador ran away with it, is it?
