Relax, it was for a greater cause. You see, Proxibid, an online marketplace, held an auction for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The item auctioned? A “spanking-new” Mazda MX-5 Launch Edition.
If there’s a more remarkable way of purchasing Mazda’s new sports-car, let me know. Although I admit, $55,000 is a lot of money for an MX-5, even for a special edition limited to just 1000 examples. Still, the car was sold to an online bidder and one hundred percent of the revenue will go to the children’s hospital.
Needless to say, there’s no doubt in my mind the person who paid $20,000 over Mazda’s list price for the MX-5 did it for the greater good. Still in addition to the car, the winning bidder also received all the standard elements found in the Launch Edition pack – Mazda-branded BOSE SoundLink, a mini Bluetooth speaker in a gift box and some select items from Mazda’s upcoming Heritage collection apparel line.
Every Launch Edition MX-5 comes in top-spec Grand Touring trim, with a beautiful Soul Red paintjob, a tan interior and lots and lots of optional extras as standard. Oh, and this particular one had a manual, 6-speed gearbox. Yummy!
“St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening disease. St. Jude freely shares the breakthroughs it makes and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use their knowledge to save thousands more children. Thanks to partners like Mazda and Proxibid, buyers and supporters from as far away as the United Kingdom were able to participate in this auction, helping us to raise even greater awareness and funds for the hospital, and ensuring families never receive a bill from St. Jude.”
