Mercedes is too eager to share what’s new with the upcoming E-Class, which apparently will come packed with nine brand-new technologies.
The fifth generation of the E-Class is going to be one of the most advanced passenger cars for sale, offering a set of new safety systems called ‘Intelligent Drive Next Level’ which includes systems like steering assistance to avoid obstacles or even an accident, protecting the passengers’ hearing during a crash and will even push the front passengers away from the doors in the event of a side impact.
The new E-Class will be able to drive itself through bends on the motorways thanks to the Steering Pilot function at speeds up to 80mph while the Distance Pilot Distronic system enables it to maintain a safe distance from the front car at speeds up to 124mph (200km/h) with the help of the latest sensors and cameras.
One of the most important features of the new E-Class will be the Car-to-X communication which will allow the new Mercedes to exchange information with a compatible model about road conditions, the weather and much more, making essentially the first step to a fully autonomous driving future.
But it’s not all about safety as it turns out that Mercedes will give the next E-Class a few party tricks as well, like the automatic parking by remote control. If the car detects a space big enough (parallel or perpendicular) you can walk out and use a smartphone app to park the car remotely. The other trick is using your smartphone as a key, with Mercedes utilizing the NFC technology (Near Field Communication), deleting the need for a physical key as the feature can work even if your phone’s battery is dead.
Mercedes has also increased the number of LEDs in the headlights of the new E-Class, now counting to 84. With more LEDs, the new headlights can control much more precisely their beams to avoid dazzling other road users.
