Electronic stability programs, regardless of acronym used to designate them, can save you from crashing even in the grimmest of situations like when there’s no grip and a ‘moose’ wanders into the road while you’re driving.
This video by CarAdvice shows just how massive a difference these electronics make, and it carries out two test runs in a Holden Insignia VXR: one with all of the systems (including ABS) turned off, and another with all switched back on.
The first run is appalling, and the car, which was driven by a professional racing driver, slid straight missing the cones by some distance.
Switch everything back on and the lack of drama you witness is very impressive – same tires, same car just with all the electronic traction and direction-keeping aids on.
