Open continues the roll out of its “whisper diesels” across the lineup, with the Insignia being the latest model to get two new 120PS (118hp) and 136PS (134hp) units replacing their 2-liter counterparts.

Both turbo diesel engines have a displacement of 1.6 liters and produce 320Nm (236lb-ft) of torque from 2,000 rpm. With the 120PS engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission and Start/Stop system, the Insignia sedan accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 11.9 seconds, just like the version it replaces. However, the sprint from 80 to 120 km/h in fifth gear is now more than two seconds faster, at 10.4 seconds.

As for fuel efficiency, the Opel Insignia equipped with this engine averages 3.9 l/100 km (72.4 mpg UK or 60.3 mpg US), corresponding to CO2 emissions of 104 g/km.

The more powerful 136PS version is even more economical, returning 3.8 l/100 km (74.3 mpg UK or 61.9 mpg US), with CO2 emissions of just 99 g/km. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h takes 10.9 seconds, while the acceleration from 80 to 120 km/h is achieved in 10.4 seconds. Top speed is 210 km/h (130 mph), 5 km/h higher than the variant it replaces.

Prices in Germany start from €26,670 for the 120PS version and €28,070 for the 136PS version (including VAT, for the sedan body style).

Besides the new diesels, the Opel Insignia is now available with Opel OnStar and the new IntelliLink generation including Apple CarPlay integration. The personal Connectivity and Service Assistant Opel OnStar is standard from the Edition trim level and customers can use all services free of charge for the first 12 months after activation.

The service includes 24-hour Automatic Crash Response, Stolen Vehicle Assistance, Roadside Assistance, Vehicle Diagnostics on important operating data and measurements as well as the remote control of various vehicle functions via Smartphone App. It also turns the Insignia into a mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot with stable internet connection.
