Yes, yes, the Miami Vice Ferrari is one of the most recognizable prancing horses in pop culture, but can we just focus on the fact that this particular Testarossa is a wonderful, unspoiled and untouched automobile?
Ok, maybe just a little “spoiled” by the show’s director. You see, in its factory form the car was painted black, but Michael Mann decided to make it white in order to get some better visibility shots of it in the night scenes. But other than that, this car retains all its original components – beige leather interior, power windows, power locks, power seats, cruise control, air conditioning and a gorgeous Momo steering wheel.
Oh, and it comes with one of the first Motorola cell-phones models, mounted on a hands free module – just to keep the 1980s vibe alive.
It even has the single – mirror design, which tells us that it’s one of the early “mono specchio” examples. Furthermore, the flat 12 engine developing 390 horses has only 16,124 miles (25,949 Km) on it.
According to Mecum Auctions – the auction house in charge for selling the Ferrari – the car was retired after the show ended and it was placed in storage from 1990 to 2015.
That’s odd, given the fact that the car has been listed on eBay last year for an outstanding $1.75 million. Granted, there were two similar Testarossa models used while filming the show, but they couldn’t both sport the same ZFFSA17AXG0063631 VIN plate.
Anyway, the car comes with a lot of documentation to prove its authenticity and its set to go under the hammer at Monterey between 13 and 15 August.
