Just a few days ago, we read a report about how Ferrari are probably going to pursue Williams’ star driver Valtteri Bottas. But what if they could set their sights even higher?
This is a tricky one right here. It’s painfully difficult to say who’s got more talent between Bottas and Ricciardo, but we’d probably be jumping the gun if we wouldn’t give the Aussie driver the edge – even if it’s not a blow out.
Recently, the Red Bull driver opened up about his frustrations with not having a competitive car this year, as well as speculations about his future with the team.
“We are not in a position to win and as a driver that is the only thing I want, at least in this point of my career when I am still young and hungry, and I feel I have still have a lot of potential in me,” said Ricciardo, before adding that “With contracts, it is not as easy as saying ‘yeah I will go to Ferrari and that is that.’ There are things in place, and right now it would be, from my understanding of contracts, it is not likely that I can get out.”
Hmm, call us paranoid but saying something like “it’s not likely that I can get out of my contract” doesn’t reflect that well on your current team, does it? It at least shows that you’re thinking about it.
The Aussie also said that “Going back on the Ferrari thing; it is nice to be recognized by a team like that so I will take it a compliment and see what happens.”
Even though we clearly can’t blame Ferrari for being interested in Ricciardo, it is indeed unlikely he’ll manage to get out of his contract – which means he has no choice but to remain positive about his team’s chances in 2016.
Having to wait another year before challenging the cars at the front is frustrating, but at this point in time, both Ricciardo and Red Bull will have to push on through and find a way to win again.
