Two whole years after we first caught Renault engineers in an Alpine test-mule dressed in Lotus Exige bodywork, the French carmaker continues work on the car under a similar concealment.
To be fair, this test mule is using a more extensively modified Exige body with even wider wheel arches and a longer rear end.
While there’s nothing production about this tester, Renault gave us an accurate glance at their upcoming Alpine at last month’s 2015 Le Mans 24h with the Celebration concept that echoes the design of the French brand’s older models from the 1960s, most notably the A110 Berlinetta.
Renault has promised to bring their new Alpine sports car to production next year, following a turbulent period during which it broke up a partnership to build and develop the car with Caterham.
The French have been coy about the sports model’s mechanicals, but one option could be the firm’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four with over 250hp positioned behind the driver turning the rear wheels (likely) through a dual-clutch transmission.
