With massive amounts of instant torque available at the push of a button, it’s no wonder that the P85D held off a 700+ HP Ford Mustang in this 1/4 mile drag race.
You know how it goes; Model S P85D jumps ahead, where it either remains (if it’s a 1/4 mile run) or loses out eventually (if we’re talking longer distances).
This turbocharged Ford Mustang didn’t seem all that interested in putting up a fight as soon as the race started. It obviously didn’t get off the line as well as it should have, and at one point it actually looks like it’s slowing down way before crossing the line.
But like the Tesla driver says in the video’s description, “winning is winning”. Sort of. We know that the P85D can hold its own against a 707 HP Hellcat, which leads us to believe that this race should have been closer.
However, we also know what happens when the P85D has to cover an entire mile or simply put, has to accelerate from a rolling start.
With ‘Insane Mode’ activated, the Tesla is not an easy car to defeat in a straight line, but sometimes you don’t even need a weight/power advantage to crawl back and overtake.
Could it be that lately, Model S P85D owners have gotten a little cocky? Somebody definitely needs to level the playing field.
