In a very unusual move, Jaguar took the brave decision to revive the E-Type Lightweight almost half a century since the first models rolled out of their factory.
The story says that Jaguar built 12 E-Type Lightweights, with bodies made out of aluminum, saving this way 100kg of weight, with their log having an extra six chassis numbers which were never made.
Last year Jaguar took the decision to build the final six Lightweights at the exact same specifications of the original model. The task was just epic, because most of the tooling and engineering drawings were lost according to Autocar magazine and Jaguar had to reverse-engineer many of the parts, including the all-aluminum engine.
This is not a recreation, this is the real deal made today. The British magazine took a first taste of this magnificent creation, giving us many details about it. All six of the ‘new’ Lightweights have now sold in the rather appropriate price of £1 million (about $1.5 million).
