Last year, the Opel/Vauxhall Mokka was Europe’s 4th best-selling small SUV, behind the Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008 and Dacia Duster.

Of course, keep in mind that this is definitely not an ultra-competitive segment where you’ve got 10-15 equally brilliant cars battling it out.

Even so, the Mokka (127,437 units) did manage to edge out the Nissan Juke, and got within 335 units of matching the Duster’s numbers. This year, things are looking even better for the Mokka – currently 2nd behind the Captur.

We also know that the Mokka is about to get a facelift – technically it already got it, since we’ve already seen the spy shots, and what we have here is a rendering depicting what the facelifted version might look like.

Right off the bat, this looks pretty good…not to mention plausible. The artist gave it new front & rear bumpers, a new grille and a better looking headlights.

At the back there are now LED taillights, while the overall design does kind of keep the Mokka in line with the new Corsa and Astra K – which should be the whole point of the facelift.

Naturally, we should also expect interior upgrades, as well as new engines such as the Corsa’s 1.0 liter Ecotec turbocharged petrol unit.

Bottom line, a fresher Mokka could steal 1st place from the Captur in terms of sales. However, the Captur does offer something that most of its rivals cannot – stunning rear legroom.
