Volvo Cars of North America announced it will be importing 265 units of the S60 and V60 Polestar performance vehicles for the 2016 model year.
It may look like a low number to some, but it really isn’t, considering that Volvo plans to sell 750 Polestar vehicles globally this year. The first units will arrive in the US this summer, with 60 percent of the allocation expected to be V60s and 40 percent to be S60s.
While 2015 Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar vehicles were only available in Rebel Blue and Black Sapphire, model year 2016 will add Ice White and Bright Silver to the color options.
Both the S60 Polestar and V60 Polestar are powered by a 345hp turbocharged inline-six engine which allows them to sprint from 0 to 60 mpg (96 km/h) in just 4.7 seconds (sedan) and 4.8 seconds (estate). The engine is mated to a modified transmission with faster gear shifts and to a Haldex all-wheel drive system.
Besides engine tuning, Polestar vehicles also feature custom shock absorbers developed with long-time partner Öhlins, an upgraded Brembo brake system including 6-piston brake calipers and ventilated brake discs, as well as an exclusive aerodynamic kit.
Standard equipment includes the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), Adaptive Cruise Control, Harman Kardon Premium Sound and Nubuck clad steering wheel and seats for increased grip.
Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but it shouldn’t be too far off the 2015 models’, which retailed for $59,700 (S60) and $61,300 (V60).
