Believe it or not, the Passat is the first VW model to use a head-up display with the company bragging about its ‘innovative’ nature.
A transparent display rises in front of the driver and can project pretty much anything he wants, like speed, navigation guidance, traffic sign readings, even the activity of the assistance systems. The resolution of the display is a rather sharp 480×240 pixels. The driver can decide which info to be displayed through the infotainment system menu.
The Passat range gained recently a petrol-electric plug-in version dubbed GTE. Much like the smaller Golf GTE, the hybrid Passat uses a turbocharged 154hp 1.4 TSI engine combined with a 113hp electric motor for a combined output of 215hp and 295lb-ft of torque.
The Passat GTE offers an all-electric range of up to 50km (31 miles) and returns 1.6lt/100km (147mpg US – 176.5mpg UK) according to the NEDC standards with the CO2 emissions rated at 37g/km.
