Volkswagen has released new photos of the Passat GTE plug-in hybrid, which will arrive this autumn in European dealerships and later on this year in Asian markets.

Available in both sedan and estate body styles, the VW Passat GTE features a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a system output of 218PS (215hp) that allows it to travel up to 50 km (31 miles) on electric power alone. The plug-in hybrid returns 1.6 l/100 km (176.5 mpg UK or 147 mpg US) and 12.2 kWh/100 km (12.4 kWh for the Variant) according to the NEDC cycle.

Under normal operating conditions, the Passat GTE always begins its journey in all-electric mode, which can also be activated at the push of a button – for example towards the end of a journey as the car enters a city.

As an independent trim line, the VW Passat GTE benefits from extended standard features including LED headlights, Driver Alert System, Automatic Post-Collision Braking, the Front Assist ambient traffic monitoring system including City Emergency Braking function, a rain sensor, ParkPilot for front and rear, chrome trim on the side windows and comfort front seats.

Exclusive styling features include the specific chrome radiator grille unit with integrated blue stripe, completely redesigned bumper with C-shaped LED DRLs and 17-inch Montpellier alloy wheels. Inside, the Passat GTE’s Composition Media infotainment system comes with a dedicated menu including the functions and displays specific to the plug-in hybrid’s drive system features.

GTE-specific details also include the blue ambient lighting, multi-function leather steering wheel with blue decorative stitching, a GTE gear knob with blue stitching and specific seats with a matching blue basic structure. Aluminum accents and gloss black trim complete the changes.
