If you’re still confused as to what’s going on with all these GL-something Mercs, all you need to know in this particular case is that the GLE is basically the old M-Class.
What you’re looking at here is both an on-board as well as an instrument view of a GLE 350 d AMG Line, cruising around and accelerating to 207 km/h (128 mph) on the Autobahn.
You also get to watch the new 9G-Tronic gearbox at work, helping the driver get the most out of his 258 PS and 620 Nm (457 lb-ft) of torque. Ideally, the GLE 350 d can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 7.1 seconds – before making its way to a top speed of 225 km/h (140 mph).
In comparison, a BMW X5 will hit 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds despite the fact that it has exactly the same horsepower and torque figures. The Bimmer is slightly lighter though.
As for the new Audi Q7, it’s faster but it’s got more power and less weight to worry about. Plus, it’s the newest model…which always helps.
In the video, the GLE 350 d reached 200 km/h (124 mph) in 37.7 seconds, and that seems a little slow. However, the driver doesn’t seem to be making any mistakes, so either this is right, or the GLE 350 d is a tiny bit quicker than this video lets on.
