McLaren F1s are rare beasts but the LM versions are the real unicorns in this crazy corner of the automotive royal family.
That’s because McLaren only made five of them to honor their win at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans race, with an extra two cars to have been officially upgraded to ‘LM Specification’ by the British marque. The car we have here is one of those factory-upgraded models.
This red example is the 63rd McLaren F1 built and has been updated with a 691hp version of BMW’s V12 (basically the race engine without the restrictors), the high-downforce aero agenda, an upgraded gearbox and many more mechanical upgrades, retaining at the same time a full-road spec interior.
It’s safe to say that this awesome piece of automotive history combines the best of both worlds and as one of only two ever to exist, the price is expected to reach stratospherical levels. The auction will take place in Monterey, California on August 13-14 and is held by RM Auctions.
