A terrible accident happened on Saturday during the Shoreham Air Show in the south of England when a 1950s Hawker Hunter jet crashed into a busy road.
Authorities announced the crash claimed the lives of 11 people, with 14 people injured. The Hawker Hunter jet was performing a loop but could not complete the maneuver, crashing into several vehicles that were caught in a traffic jam on the A27 road.
According to eye witnesses cited by BBC News, the plane seemed to have stalled mid maneuver, possibly because of an engine failure. Others say the low altitude at which the maneuver was performed caused the tragedy.
An investigation is being conducted by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau, which has asked “anyone who has video or photographs of the plane in the time leading up to and including the crash to hold on to them and await advice as to whether they may be wanted to assist with the investigation.”
The A27 road is currently closed in both directions between the A2025, near Lancing and A293, near Shoreham-by-Sea. Authorities announced that the A27 may remain closed for several days to allow repairs.
