Hyundai wasn’t joking when it said that the all-new Elantra, called Avante AD in its home market, is “just around the corner”, as shots of an undisguised model surfaced on Korean websites.
These photos are of the Korean Domestic Market (KDM) Avante AD, but there shouldn’t be any notable styling differences over the international 2017MY Elantra sedan that will make its US debut at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show in November, before going on sale during the first quarter of 2016.
The new generation of the Elantra borrows plenty of styling cues from the Genesis luxury sedan on both the outside and the inside, with more angular shapes and a more mature appearance overall.
The compact model will ride on an improved platform with a retuned suspension. There are no official details on the powertrain options, but it’s believed that Hyundai will offer its new 175hp 1.6-liter T-GDi gasoline engine mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, with the US also likely getting a 164hp 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four (both units are available on the North America Tucson). Other markets such as Europe may get a 1.4-liter turbocharged gasoline and a choice of diesel units.
