A private jet, said to be owned by Bin Laden’s family, plunged into a car auction lot near London after overshooting the runway on Friday afternoon.
The Saudi Arabian jet was attempting to land at the Blackbushe Airport in Hampshire, located about 40 miles (65 km) southwest of London.
All four people aboard were killed, according to a Hampshire police spokesperson. The staff and customers at the British Car Auction site escaped unscathed.
“We can confirm that there were four people on board, including the pilot, and sadly there were no survivors. No-one on the ground has been injured,” said Inspector Olga Venner from Hampshire Constabulary.
NBC News reported that a bin Laden family friend told the station that the victims include Rajaa Hashim, stepmother of Osama bin Laden; Sana bin Laden, Osama bin Laden’s half-sister; and her husband, Zuhair Hashim.
According to one witnesses at the car auction site, Andre Thomas, the £7 million Embraer Phenom 300 jet looked like it “exploded“.
“I saw it when it had just happened, and could see the plane and cars in flames,” Thomas told Express. “The plane nosedived into the cars and exploded on impact.”
