The title of “World’s best driving sports saloon” is something that’s been in BMW‘s pocket for multiple 3 Series generations. And don’t worry, it’s not going to change.
Sure, Audi might convince us that their all-new A4 is brilliant to drive, or Jaguar might talk us into loving the XE’s dynamic characteristics, but the truth is, BMW builds their cars from the ground up specifically to make the driver feel like he’s connected to the road, more so than in any other manufacturer.
It’s not that Audi, Mercedes, Jaguar and so on can’t build a car that feels and drives like the 3 Series, it’s just that it’s not their motto to do so – just like how the 3 Series will never “glide” like a Mercedes C-Class can.
If you break it down, there isn’t much between all of these premium sports saloons. They’re all great. What it comes down to is us, the customers.
So to say that the BMW 3 Series was “made for curves” isn’t at all inaccurate. The car was actually made to be sportier than its rivals, so BMW can go ahead and say pretty much anything they want about it.
Another interesting thing you’ll notice in this video is that they used a 340i – their sportiest non-M Division 3 Series version. Thanks to its 326 PS engine, it can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.2 seconds (5.1 automatic).
Also notice how it’s the rear wheel drive model and not the xDrive model (since you can’t see any xDrive badge on the trunk lid).
It makes sense after all. If you’re talking about “owning” every single twisty road you come across, might as well do it in a RWD BMW sports saloon, right?
