Former Formula 1 and current McLaren GT factory driver Bruno Senna, has joined the McLaren P1 GTR Driver Program where he will act as mentor at each track event.
Senna’s goal will be to ensure optimum performance for each of the cars as well as the drivers, around some of the world’s most iconic and challenging circuits.
During his sting as an F1 driver, Senna raced for HRT (2010), Renault (2011) and partnered with Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado while racing for Williams in 2012 – arguably his best season, securing 31 points.
Here’s what Senna had to say about his new role at McLaren as well as the Driver Program: “The McLaren P1 GTR is a phenomenal machine, and is designed for one purpose – to be the ultimate drivers’ car around any given track. With more power and torque, optimized aerodynamics and increased grip over the already very impressive McLaren P1, the levels of performance are at the next level. Significant focus has been put on ensuring drivers can access and exploit the extra performance.”
Members of the McLaren P1 GTR Driver Program will be well-trained in order to feel confident in tackling any and all circuits. Initial consultations will include a race seat fitting, a Human Performance Center assessment and discussions around design and livery.
Of course, drivers will have access to the McLaren racing simulator in order to familiarize themselves with the circuits.
Speaking of which, there are currently nine provisional tracks selected, such as Circuit de Catalunya (Spain), Sepang International Circuit (Malaysia), Circuit of the Americas (North America), Silverstone (UK), Autodromo Nazionale Monza (Italy), Red Bull Ring (Austria), Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), Bahrain International Circuit (Bahrain) and Yas Marina (Abu Dhabi).
