In a bid to be more like the established luxury automakers that are part of a bigger automotive group, Cadillac wants more freedom and autonomy from parent company General Motors.
Automotive News quotes Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen who recently said he’d like the firm to have “a far higher degree of autonomy and self sufficiency.”
One reason he’s pushing for that would be to gain the ability to assess its own profits and losses separately from GM. De Nysschen does assure everybody that even now, Cadillac “makes a very sizeable contribution to the overall profit at General Motors.”
Additionally, this will also lead to more dealer differentiation this in turn giving the brand more visibility and allowing people to perceive it as a separate entity.
How soon is this expected to happen? Well, the source says 2017 will be the year, as de Nysschen looks to achieve his set goal of selling 500,000 vehicles per year around the world by 2020; the 2014 sales figure was 263,697, so they have roughly five years to double it.
