Ford has promoted the GT countless of times and we’ve seen almost every inch of its gorgeous body. Still, we missed some important aspects…
Keeping with today’s supercar standards, the upcoming GT isn’t just a rolling hunk of metal. The thing is beautifully sculptured and as it goes faster its shape twist and turns – metaphorically speaking.
That’s because the car has active aerodynamics. We already knew this since its launch, back in January at the North American International Auto Show, but Ford kept the feature fairly well hidden from public eyes – almost as well as it kept the entire car before its official debut.
As you can see from the official picture taken from the upcoming Forza Motorsport 6 video game, the American brute has a deployable rear spoiler. The purpose of this cool-looking wing is to provide the much needed downforce and stability to the aircraft-inspired fuselage body. Moreover, the active spoiler is keyed directly to both speed and driver input, reactively deploying and adjusting in height and pitch angle depending on feedback and conditions. It even tilts while concealed in the body, and acts like an air brake too.
In the first Forza 6 gameplay trailers, the car didn’t show the active aero element, but lucky for us Microsoft’s latest teaser highlighted the feature.
It just goes to show how many detail one can overlook while glancing at the overall package.
