Car vs. bike is pretty much an ageless battle that’s been going on in the minds of automotive fans and two-wheel fans alike.
To compare any production car to a motorcycle in terms of straight line speed is certainly ridiculous. This is why we always jump at the chance to see how a bike especially a MotoGP one) fares against something that’s meant to go as fast as those four wheels will allow it to.
The event took place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, though it was more of a friendly game than a ‘winner takes all’ type of thing.
A modern-day IndyCar can put out anywhere between 550 HP and 700 HP, depending on its variable turbo boost. The race car also only weighs around 700 kg (1,545 lbs), which pretty much makes it a force to be reckoned with.
Dani Pedrosa’s factory-backed RC213V Repsol Honda, on the other hand, weighs around 150 kg (330 lbs) and packs over 234 HP, so it definitely has a power-to-weight ratio advantage.
Unfortunately the track was a little wet, which meant both racers had to be careful with their throttles. Even so, we still get to see a nice sequence where the IndyCar is able to carry a lot more speed in the corners and apply more throttle on corner exits.
Last, but not least, the straight line drag race at the end should have probably ended in favor of the bike, which it did, slightly. Thus, I can’t help but think they staged a photo finish purely for the camera. After all, it was just a show, not an actual race, right?
