Those who think a car with a built-in vacuum cleaner is the greatest gift to humanity, but balk at the idea of paying $45,000 for a new minivan, can now look to the $34,255 Honda Odyssey SE.

It’s a new offering for 2016 that brings the HondaVAC within the reach of a few more people than it did last year.

Honda announced this week the 2016 Odyssey lineup would be joined by a new SE model slotting between the midgrade EX and EX-L trims, boasting popular features such as satellite radio, a rear-entertainment system and the HondaVAC vacuum cleaner that was previously restricted to the top-of-the-line Touring Elite model.

Introduced for 2014, the HondaVAC is essentially a little Shop Vac that has a home in the cargo area of the Odyssey, with all of the hoses and attachments also living in its cubby. Powered by the car’s 12-volt electrical system, it can clean up crumbs and messes for up to 8 minutes after the engine has been turned off, according to Honda.

The current Odyssey is still on top of its game among large family haulers, but a new version is due to go on sale next year. If Honda’s other people mover, the 2016 Pilot, is anything to go by, the next Odyssey is going to be pretty good.

But now might be the best time to get that HondaVAC and be able to vacuum your own minivan for less money.
