Hyundai has previewed its newest concept car, the Vision G Concept Coupe, to a select group of media at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), ahead of the car’s debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 16.

Described as the inspiration for Hyundai’s family of future premium products, the Vision G study was designed with input from the company’s design studios around the world led by Hyundai’s team in the United States.

“The design is our interpretation of the idea that Hyundai breathes into all of its vehicles – a DNA that balances design and performance with the idea that you don’t need to be over the top in terms of glitz and stereotypical luxury cues,” explained Peter Schreyer, Hyundai’s president and chief design officer.

Despite its size and dramatic lines, Vision G has a purposefully understated look. The exterior is highlighted by a long hood, high-beltline and a cabin that presents “a slingshot-like appearance.” Hyundai says the car embodies “respectful luxury,” which means it doesn’t feature unnecessary flourishes.

One example of this respectful luxury is a technology that automatically opens the door as if being opened by a valet. Interestingly, the Vision G doesn’t feature Hyundai badges. Instead, it sports a new winged logo with the words “Genesis” in the middle – most likely a confirmation that Hyundai’s luxury brand will be called Genesis.

The interior was designed according to the same principle: there are no flashy examples of luxury, but rather elegant lines and finishes. Under the hood, the coupe features the 5.0-liter Tau V8 engine producing 420hp at 6,000 rpm and 383lb-ft (519Nm) of torque at 5,000 rpm.

Taking into account its name and the fact that the Vision G looks quite production ready both from the outside and inside, it may also preview a bigger, more luxurious next-generation Genesis Coupe.
