This is probably one of the most disturbing automotive mods we’ve seen, especially since it’s designed to make the vehicle (here a large mining dump truck) break through stationary defenses, then detonate itself once inside.
This one is most likely a Belarusian-made Belaz truck and it was operated by members of the rogue Islamic State in an effort to capture an airfield on Syrian soil.
Apparently, it’s by no means the first of its kind, which is worrying because it looks like something Mad Max would use in his post-apocalyptic world, bar the explosive finale of course.
The one shown in this photo hit its target, known as the T4 airfield, a very important strategic location for the Syrian resistance army, but we don’t know the detailed extent of casualties and damages it caused. Apparently “dozens” were killed and a radar station was destroyed.
But this isn’t about the politics, it’s about that DIY armor job on the truck which looks like it’d be scarily efficient at carrying it out its mission. Nothing could stop something so big and bulletproof if built up properly; but why bother “engineering it” when it’s a single-use vehicle?
