McLaren-Honda’s Jenson Button and his wife Jessica Michibata were robbed and allegedly gassed while on holiday on the French Riviera.
Reports about the couple and a few of their friends being rendered unconscious while the robbers stole £300,000’s worth of valuables, including Jessica’s engagement ring, are currently circulating the web.
However, medical experts remain doubtful seen as though it would require massive amounts of gas (which is expensive and difficult to obtain) in order render multiple people unconscious.
According to deputy prosecutor Philippe Guemas, the claim that gas was used came from Button’s entourage, shaken up by the fact that the F1 driver wasn’t feeling well after the robbery.
“To our knowledge there has never been a burglary like this in St Tropez where gas was used to knock out the victims. We have taken blood samples, which will be analyzed.”
The robbers broke in while everyone was asleep and thankfully didn’t harm anybody. If some type of gas was indeed pumped through the air conditioning, it remains something that has yet to be confirmed.
According to the BBC, Button’s spokesman said that “the police have indicated that this has become a growing problem in the region with perpetrators going so far as to gas their proposed victims through the air conditioning units before breaking in.”
Hopefully, the perpetrators are caught and the valuables returned to their rightful owners. As for the theft itself, it definitely sounds like these guys knew what they were doing – so catching them might be a lot harder than it sounds.
