We know the hoverboard commissioned by Lexus uses repelling magnets to work, but we have so far not been spoon-fed the details in an official video published by the manufacturer – this is that video.
It’s not a bad video by any means, and it really sounds like Dietmar Berger was really keen and passionate about the project – he’s the engineer behind its conception, the person Lexus tasked with developing the hoverboard and magnetized skate park.
What we don’t fully understand is how this will be translated into useful technology for the buyer of Lexus cars. It is cool and all that we have a working hoverboard, but it just an image stunt pulled by Lexus and not something that could materialize into useful tech for the end user.
Mr. Berger was aided by a specialist in superconductors, Prof. Ludwig Schultz (a key part of how it all works) – the source of all that vapor coming out; that’s liquid nitrogen cooling the superconductors as they work inside the board.
