McLaren Automotive’s entry-level model has made it to the pre-production phase, which will ensure high levels of quality will be attained ahead of its global launch.

The first two versions will be the 540C Coupe and the 570S Coupe, the latter being the first to be launched in the McLaren Sport Series family.

As of right now, the Sport Series has covered well over 500,000 km (310,000 miles) during testing, tackling a mixture of race circuits and roads, as well as some of the harshest conditions around the world such as extreme heat (Arizona & Nevada summer), extreme cold (Arctic) and of course, the changeable British weather.

McLaren Automotive Executive Director of Quality Andreas Bareis explained that the “pre-production phase is one of the most important, and also one of the most demanding, in a product readiness phase at McLaren. Up to this point, vehicles have been running in various locations around the world and subjected to some of the harshest conditions, and we are testing every component and system to the extreme.”

The McLaren Production Center (MPC) has already been set up in preparation for the new model. The latest phase of the program will also ensure a smooth transition of production methods already in place for the Super Series and Ultimate Series models, as the Sports Series will be integrated into the production line along with the Super Series.

Deliveries, starting with the 570S Coupe, will commence before the end of the year, while by the end of 2017, McLaren’s range is expected to double its annual volume.

Prices for the Sports Series start from £126,000 in the UK for the 540C.
