The recently revealed Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe does not look like a smaller S63 AMG. If anything, it somehow evokes the AMG GT more than its flagship coupe cousin.
In AMG trim, the new C-Class Coupe certainly looks closer to its predecessor than non-AMG cars do. This seems to be more true for the Coupe and less so for the sedan.
The C63 Coupe, both new and old, exudes a kind of boy racer look, or rather middle-aged racer look. I mean the spoiler on the black edition old-gen C63 Coupe (pictured here in Black Series trim) really works to such a degree that I now cannot picture that car without it…
And I`m sure the new car would wear a similar spoiler and pull it off no problem – and you do need it now, because with 700 Nm / 518 lb-ft of torque from the new 4.0 V8 biturbo the rear breaks away really rather easily indeed and aero grip is always good.
Below, we put the new C63 Coupe alongside the old one and the S63 as well. Scrolling through the photos it’s pretty clear that, while similar in details and overall design, the C and S are very different cars.
As with the sedan, it’s all about the proportion here. The S63 AMG hasn’t got that middle-aged racer vibe about it (it couldn’t rock a ricer spoiler), but that very thing is unique and links current and past generations of C63 Coupe very nicely, even if they are really rather different in terms of styling.
