While Ferrari may have touted its F50 as an F1 car for the road, they had to make so many concessions it ended up being a so-so effort in the end . That’s not the case with the Mercedes CLK GTR of the same period, though.

The Mercedes looked exactly like a Le Mans racer, and all cars built for the road were solely built to meet homologation regulations for the FIA’s GT Championship.

The CLK GTR, built by AMG, has a screaming six-liter V12 making some 600 crank horsepower – it went up to 630 hp in racing applications in 1997. Only 25 were ever built, though, and only one of these cars is right-hand drive, ordered specially by Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei.

It’s the kind of car that always draws a crowd, be it one comprised of enthusiasts or just enthusiastic bystanders, people are always looking and taking photos of it.
