With Land Rover retiring the old Defender and replacing it with a retro-styled but much more modern new model, Mercedes will undoubtedly be considering the generation change as well.
The Defender and the G-Class are two vehicles which are mentioned in the same company, even if in the last decade or more, the latter has morphed into plush transportation for sheiks, ditching its military/rugged roots.
The G-Wagen is a luxury limousine crammed inside what will essentially always remain a military vehicle. But people who don’t like change appreciate the fact that it looks nearly as it did decades ago, while featuring the very latest Merc tech.
Even so, the G will get replaced at some point, and it will probably be one of the hardest jobs in the world for Mercedes to successfully design its successor.
We have seen a few interpretations floating around the web, and all are quite swoopy in their aesthetic – they do stay true to the overall shape of the G, but add modern elements of design too.
This interpretation of what it could be like, published by Ares Design doesn’t stray from the speculative future G rendering norm (it looks swoopy and futuristic) but like the flamboyantly styled Rolls Royce SUV interpretation, it is not a bad effort at all – in fact, it’s probably one of the best predictions of how it could look like.
