Three-door hatchbacks are a dying breed, with fewer automakers offering three-door versions of their B- and C-segment models.
While it may make economic sense not to build three-door hatches anymore because sales are dwindling as people are looking for more practical five-door versions, I can’t help but regret this current state of affairs.
Take for instance the previous-generation Opel Astra GTC, arguably one of the most attractive three-door compacts of its time. While Opel has recently unveiled the all-new Astra in a five-door configuration, we know that the automaker is also developing a Sports Tourer estate version and most likely a sedan as well.
However, there’s no official information about plans for a three-door Astra GTC and we have yet to see spy photos of three-door Astra development prototypes.
Seeing these renderings from Theophilus Chin, you’ll probably agree with me that it would be a pity for Opel to stop offering a three-door Astra GTC.
