If you have to go down, it’s always best to go down swinging, and that’s exactly what this 911 GT3 did, while being at a clear disadvantage.
Well, to clarify, the 911 GT3 has a power and torque disadvantage compared to the M5. But weight-wise? The Porsche is nearly 500 kg (1,102 lbs) lighter.
With all things being equal, the GT3 can sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.5 seconds, whereas the M5 needs 4.3 seconds, despite having 560 PS to the Porsche’s 476 PS.
Unfortunately, on this day, things weren’t equal at all. This BMW M5 has a Burger Motorsport Stage 1 tune that should boost its power to somewhere around 600 horses. It’s not a huge bump, but it doesn’t make it any less unfair.
The thing is, even at a disadvantage, the 911 GT3 is quick enough not only to take the lead but also to hold on to it for a few good seconds before the BMW’s added muscle mass starts putting in the work.
Also, this was a rolling start, which helped the BMW even more than if both cars would have launched from a stand still.
I’m not saying that the 911 would have won that race, but it would have had the lead for a little longer.
