It’s a well known fact that VW’s Amarok pick-up hasn’t exactly been their best-selling truck.
Obviously, the Amarok was never designed to appeal to Tiguan or Touareg customers – though people interested in other 4MOTION VWs, and in need of a pick-up truck, could always turn their attention towards it.
With this year marking a 2.4% world-wide increase in VW Commercial vehicles sales, V-Dub sales people are probably considering more ways in which those numbers could grow even further.
Of course, a “global solution” could be to build a more appealing product, not just from a practicality stand point but also aesthetically. Making it look more imposing is never a bad idea (American pick-up manufacturers do it all the time), and the CrossBlue Concept influences work quite well if you don’t mind me saying.
Also, having driven the Amarok a few years ago, I can tell you first hand that for a pick-up, it’s pretty good – just don’t expect those plastics to be as good as they are on a Passat or a Touareg.
Another issue I had with it was the load bay…from a visual perspective. Maybe I feel they could have done something more with those overly simple taillights, and this rendering doesn’t change that aspect much. In fact, it’s almost identical.
Still, people interested in buying a present-day Amarok (or better yet, in need of buying one) should definitely not hesitate and check out a VW dealership. First step is always the test drive.
