Does Japan have a thing for special, limited edition BMWs or is it the other way around?

After BMW launched a special edition for almost every model in their line-up, they noticed that the small 1 Series slipped through their fingers. But it didn’t take long for the Germans to realize their “mistake” and they launched a special, limited-edition 1 Series, available for purchase in Japan.

And here it is; called the “Fashionista”, it’s based on the facelifted 5-door 118i and appeals to… avid fashion lovers, apparently. At least judging by its “Fashionista” moniker.

So, it comes as no surprise to see it sport an “elegant, stylish exterior design” complemented by bright Crimson Red or Mineral White paint schemes. Moreover, it comes with 17-inch wheels (which look like 15-inch wheels compared to the body), and a plethora of accessories, such as: lots of driving assistance systems, parking support package, rear view camera, vehicle speed-sensitive power steering, light package and storage package.

As we stated before, these limited-edition Japan-spec BMWs are actually pre-configured models, eliminating the necessity and the boredom of actually configuring a car when buying. That said, the 118i “Fashionista” will be limited to just 380 units costing ¥3,950,000 each – roughly $33,000.

Although the BMW 1 Series is a unisex car, this particular model seems tailor-made for female customers. Sure, the entire package offered by BMW is tempting, especially the 134 Hp, 3-cylinder, 1.5-litre Turbo powerplant, but there’s something in its name that will put off most of the male buyers. We’re thinking it’s “Fashionista”.

We wonder how many BMW models will sport a limited edition tag in Japan. Run X5 and X6! Run for your lives!
