Chevrolet’s all-new 2016 Malibu will be available in the United States with a starting suggested retail price of $22,500 for the base L model, including $875 destination.
The 2016 Malibu will be offered with five grades: L, LS, LT, Hybrid and Premier. Standard equipment includes 10 airbags, cruise control, push-button start with passive entry and stop/start technology on the base 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine.
The LS model starts at $23,995 and adds standard Chevrolet MyLink Radio with 7-inch diagonal color touch screen, available compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a rear vision camera.
The LT model is priced from $25,895 and adds LED daytime running lamps and 8-way power driving seats. The 2016 Malibu LT is projected to offer a General Motors-estimated 27 mpg (8.7 l/100 km) city and 37 mpg (6.3 l/100 km) highway, when equipped with the Ecotec 1.5-liter turbo engine with stop/start.
The LT and Premier grades are also available with a 2.0-liter turbo with an 8-speed transmission, which starts at $29,495 and $31,795 respectively. Malibu 2.0T models offer a GM-estimated 22 mpg (10.7 l/100 km) in the city and 32 mpg (7.3 l/100 km) on the highway. Official EPA estimates are not yet available for any of the Malibu’s powertrains.
The 2016 Malibu can be ordered with an all-new available hybrid powertrain sourced from the Chevrolet Volt. It helps offer a GM-estimated 48 mpg (4.9 l/100 km) city, 45 mpg (5.2 l/100 km) highway and 47 mpg (5.0 l/100 km) combined. Pricing for the Malibu Hybrid will be announced closer to the start of production in spring 2016.
The new Malibu is longer and lighter, offering more rear interior space than the current model thanks to an extended wheelbase by nearly 4 inches compared to the previous model. The sedan is also nearly 300lbs (136kg) lighter than its predecessor.
