When thinking about “small stuff” or small things in general, people usually mean experiences or objects that aren’t of a complex nature. So in a way, the devil is in the details, as far as all cars are concerned.

But let’s not steal too much of Merc’s thunder here because not all cars are created equal. The 2016 C-Class is a well built, well tuned, premium machine that takes a backseat to nobody within its segment. It also happens to be elegant, efficient and quick across the range – so there’s probably a C-Class for everyone.

The video’s narrator also mentions how the C-Class sets a benchmark in refinement, which is true – unless we come to the conclusion that the all-new A4 has a better ride.

As for the “starting at $38,950” price part, they’re talking about the C300 which is the entry level model in the US. It packs 241 HP and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) and that’s not a bad way to start the day.

For an extra $2,000 you can get the 4MATIC version, which might be the smarter buy, depending on where you live. Those looking for even more punch can settle on the C450 AMG or go directly for the AMG C63 or 63 S if they’ve got anywhere between $65,250 and $73,250 laying around.

Sticking with the US market, BMW does offer a cheaper “in” if you’re looking to join the segment with their 320i Sedan, starting at $33,150. It’s the 328i however that would be the equivalent of the C300, and with similar power and performance figures, it all comes down to which brand you prefer and what type of ride you appreciate more.

Price-wise, both cars cost basically the same ($600 difference) and if this was a BMW ad, I have a feeling that they’d be talking about how the 3-Series sets a benchmark of its own in terms of driving dynamics.

But which entry-level model would you choose between the two?
