Not a lot of detail went into turning this regular KIA Sportage into a GT version, but the black accents and lowered suspension do look nice.

The previous generation Sportage was a much appreciated car in its segment. For a non-premium compact SUV, it sure had a very modern and dynamic exterior design – something most people seemed to agree on.

The new car, however, is a bit more controversial. As one of our readers put it, it sort of reminds you of the Subaru Tribeca, but we’re aware that KIA simply attempted to inject some of their more up-to-date DNA into the Sportage and turn it into a more contemporary vehicle.

The old model did have a somewhat poor interior in terms of quality, so obviously any improvements in that department will be greatly appreciated.

The GT version is bound for Geneva next year and aside from the superior driving experience, it’s also supposed to offer a few visual cues meant to attract more attention. This rendering features black accents around the grille, new wheels, body-colored body panels, a lowered suspension and the 1.6 liter turbocharged power unit from the cee’d GT.

Overall, we should be looking at a pretty competitive package, even though many have pointed out that the Sportage has lost a step visually.
