The successor to the prolific DB9 will be called DB11, Aston Martin said today. Like the DB9, it will be the basis for several other models.
The DB11 will be unveiled (as previously speculated) in 2016, but no additional details were shared. We, of course, got the usual statement from a high-ranking company official, this time the words of company CEO Andy Palmer.
“Not only is it a sign of our intention to continue the long line of iconic sports cars that bear the ‘DB’ moniker – the very bloodline of our brand – but it also shows the world our ambitious plan in action,” he said, adding that “the coming years will see Aston Martin transform not only its entire range of models but also its scale and global presence, and the new DB11 will be central to that success.”
But we already know much more about the upcoming model than they let slip along with the moniker confirmation announcement. We know it’s going to have AMG-sourced V8 and V12 engines, but we don’t know exactly when they will debut – maybe along with the car in 2016, possibly later.
Its chassis will feature bonded aluminum, like a Lotus Elise, so it will be lighter. The interior could benefit from more Mercedes components, if the mule our spies captured with S-Class digital dials and switchgear is not merely a one-off test car.
