Good news for gentlemen racers as Audi is now accepting orders for the racing version of the latest R8.
Having officially debuted at the Geneva Motor Show, the Audi R8 LMS has already proved its speed by taking the overall victory in this year’s 24 Hours of Nurburgring and scoring two further podium places in the Spa 24 Hours.
The GT3 racer can produce as much as 585hp depending on regulations, which is 25hp less than what the road-going V10 Plus version is currently making. The race car also uses just its rear axle to transfer its power to the tarmac, unlike the permanent all-wheel drivetrain of the road car.
“Since 2009, Audi has been producing GT3 race cars for customers around the world. In the new R8 LMS, we’re again offering our customers an absolutely competitive concept,” says Romolo Liebchen, Head of Audi Sport customer racing.
Audi will commence production of the R8 LMS on September 21, with 45 cars scheduled until the end of March 2016. Customers can order the car at the price of 398,000€ plus VAT (about $446,000) which includes a starter and a parts package.
