We’ve already established that the Bentley Bentayga will be the most expensive SUV offered in the United States, at $229,100 a pop.
Obviously, no one would expect optional extras to be cheap on Bentley’s first SUV, but an option that costs almost as much as the entire car is not something you hear about every day. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the Bentley Bentayga will be offered with an exorbitantly priced bespoke Mulliner Tourbillon by Breitling mechanical clock, made exclusively for the big luxury SUV.
According to the automaker, the clock has “the most complex of watch mechanisms.”
How complex? Well, the Mulliner Tourbillon is automatically wound by a dedicated high-precision winding mechanism within the car! Every 15 minutes, the clock spins three times – you can see how that works in the video courtesy of Chris Harris.
The timekeeping masterpiece only comes in solid gold, with customers able to select from either rose or white gold. It also offers the choice of either a mother-of-pearl or black ebony face and is decorated with eight diamond indexes.
While Bentley did not disclose the price of this optional extra, according to Chris Harris it costs around £150,000, the equivalent of $234,360 at the current exchange rates!
Considering that the Bentayga will be reportedly priced from £160,200 in the UK, isn’t a £150,000 option downright insane? Especially since the standard Breitling clock offered on the Bentayga (last photo in the gallery) looks luxurious enough for a Bentley and probably keeps time just as precisely.
