While the theme behind these short videos is humor, get ready to raise an eyebrow every time you’ll hear the phrase “best-in-class”.
The thing is, saying that the all-new X1 is the best car in its class when it comes to how spacious it is, was to be expected given its dimensions compared to the Audi Q3 and Mercedes GLA, which are a bit down on size on paper. Also, since you won’t attract more attention with a non-premium product, it’s safe to say that BMW should feel pretty confident when it comes to the all-new X1’s chances.
That being said, let’s do a quick analysis on at least one of these four short videos – we’ll go with the one called “Enemy Territory”. Here, it seems that the USC Trojans mascot (is it?) got some bad news via the X1’s tire pressure monitoring system and pulled over in a UCLA Bruins neighborhood.
All smiling aside, the idea behind the clip is a pretty good one, and watching people take sports rivalries to the extreme can be hilarious, as long as it’s humor that they’re attacking each other with. The mascot makes it out alive by the way, thanks to the X1’s run-flat tires.
As for what BMW is attacking us with in all four of these videos is the phrase “best-in-class performance”. Here, the xDrive28i’s unit does indeed have more power than the Q3 and the GLA’s 2.0 liter turbocharged engines. However, the other three spots also mention best-in-class cargo space and looking at the numbers, we’re not going to challenge them on it.
By the way, lucky for them that Audi aren’t selling the RS Q3 in the US, because that would definitely blow the X1 out of the water in terms of performance, as would any comparison with the speedy GLA 45 AMG.
