According to a report over on the Bimmerpost forums, the BMW M235i (pictured) will be replaced by a new M240i as of 2017. That’s the year this shape of 2-Series sees its first refresh and / or facelift.
Details are sparse on this specific model, we’re just told the name is changing. An increase of up to 20 hp is realistic, as it is expected to sport a breathed on version of the same 3.0-liter turbo as the current model – we could see it kiss 340 hp – that is if the power bump the 340i got over the 335i is in any way relevant.
It still won’t rival with the upcoming M2 model, as that’s a bespoke Motorsport car with lots of performance bits – with the M240i it’s more about the branding and image, even if it’s still a quick coupe by any standards and in most engine configuration.
The 228i will also be dropped in 2017, says the source forum post, being replaced by a 230i.
