The Citroen C4 is one of those models that desperately needs way more than just a subtle makeover. So unfortunately, this digital upgrade does very little for its overall appeal.

Citroen came out with their second-generation C4 back in 2010, and as much as fans of the first-gen model disliked the complete lack of “eccentricity”, the French manufacturer decided against completely replacing the aging C4 even to this day.

So just like the dark lord Sauron from the LOTR trilogy, the Citroen C4 endured and ended up driving customers and fans away from the brand, and into the welcoming arms of their C-Segment rivals.

This is the reason why the C4 hit rock bottom in terms of European sales, edging out only the Honda Civic and the Nissan Pulsar in the first half of this year. In fact, it’s been years since the C4 managed to crack the top 10 sales-wise, and no amount of facelifts could ever change that.

Citroen went from a car that won “World Car Design of the Year” back in 2006, to a car that basically rolled over for its rivals. OK, a little harsh maybe? But if so, who here would purchase a Citroen C4 today?

Anyway, the new C4 sedan was unveiled a few days ago in China at the Chengdu Motor Show, introducing a new front fascia that doesn’t look particularly original if you ask me.

In fact, this rendering pretty much looks like a C4 with VW Golf headlights, doesn’t it? Ironically, it might be a little better looking than the Euro-spec model, but overall, people would still brush it aside in favor of its rivals.
