This faintly camouflaged five-door city car is the next Ford Ka for the European market.
If it looks familiar, it’s probably because you remember Ford’s pre-production Ka study from 2013 – that or you live in South America where this generation is already on sale in select markets such as Brazil since last year.
Whereas the current, three-door-only Ka was co-developed with Fiat being based on, and built alongside the 500 city car at the Italian manufacturer’s Tychy, Poland plant, the new five-door model is a genuine Ford offering conceived in Brazil where it is also available as a four-door sedan named Ka+.
It’s based on a Ford platform, understood to be a modified version of the last Fiesta architecture, and will likely be available with a selection of naturally aspirated and turbocharged EcoBoost petrol and turbocharged diesels in Europe. The Blue Oval will fine-tune the car’s chassis to improve handling and meet European safety standards.
With the exception of some trivial changes on the outside, such as the slats on the front grille and the blinkers incorporated in the exterior mirrors and front fenders, the new Euro Ka looks exactly like its South American twin.
We should have more details in the coming months leading to its European launch next year.
