Having taken care of the BMW X6M with their 659PS (650HP) tune, G-Power has now turned to the other ‘M’ branded model of the range, the diesel-powered M50d.
It’s the third fastest and most powerful (HP-wise, not torque-wise) X6 after the 575PS (567hp) X6M and 450PS (443hp) xDrive50i, with the X6 M50d getting a tri-turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six diesel producing 381PS (376hp) and 740Nm (546 lb-ft) for a 0-100km/h in 5.2 sec and a restricted top speed of 250km/h (155mph) in factory trim.
Like most tuners, G-Power’s solution for added performance is a reprogrammed ECU (Electronic Control Unit). Actually, the German firm offers two different ECU upgrades for the M50d, each with specific advantages – on paper, at least.
The first one is a ‘plug and play device’ called the D-Tronik 5 V1 power module. Instead of replacing the factory unit, it’s placed between the factory ECU and diesel engine.
Under partial load conditions, all incoming data passes through without affecting the engine characteristics, but once the driver punches the throttle, it “instantly triggers the unique fueling and boost curves” to give an additional 74PS (73hp) and 130Nm of torque for a total of 455PS (449hp) and 870Nm (642 lb-ft).
G-Power’s second option is their D-Tronik 2 V1 upgrade with a bespoke remapping of the factory ECU that allows the customer to set specific parameters for throttle response and power delivery characteristics.
Completing the tuner’s offerings for the X6 M50d is a software upgrade to remove the 250km/h speed limiter and 23-inch HURRICANE RR forged alloy wheels available in different finishes and even a custom signature, shod with 305/25 ZR23 high-performance rubber.
