Google has announced the hiring of John Krafcik as CEO of the tech giant’s autonomous vehicle division.
Krafcik was until recently the president of TrueCar, an online auto-buying service and previously the CEO of Hyundai US, where he helped the Korean company increase their US market share by more than 50 per cent.
“We’re feeling good about our progress, so now we’re investing in building out a team that can help us bring this technology to its full potential in the coming years,” Google stated. “John’s combination of technical expertise and auto industry experience will be particularly valuable as we collaborate with many different partners to achieve our goal of transforming mobility for millions of people.”
“This is a great opportunity to help Google develop the enormous potential of self-driving cars. I can’t wait to get started,” Krafcik tweeted after the announcement and continued “Self-driving cars could save thousands of lives, give people greater mobility and free us from things we find frustrating about driving today”.
